Author: Kathy Tallentire
Kathy was born in Stoke-on-Trent and has lived on the edge of the city for most of her life. She is a Stoke City F.C. fan and held a season ticket until her daughter was born. She is a patron of the New Vic Theatre and loves Moorcroft Pottery and the work of local artist Rob Pointon.
Kathy is a history graduate (Durham University), has an MBA from Staffordshire University and is a chartered accountant. She has worked in the accounting profession for 10 years in a variety of roles.
Since the birth of her daughter in 2016, Kathy has been a full time mum and feels very lucky to have this time with her daughter. Her inspiration for the Nana Duck story came while she was pushing her daughter up and down the canal towpath trying to get her to sleep. The cover illustration is based on the part of the towpath nearest to Kathy’s house. She is very excited to be working on the project and hopes that you will enjoy the story as much as she has enjoyed writing and publishing it.
Illustrator: Sarah Croker
Sarah studied Illustration at Falmouth University and has lived in various locations across the UK as well as spending a couple of years working in Perth, Australia. She settled in Staffordshire in 2014 where she set up her career as a freelance illustrator.
Her gift business specialises in personalised portraits and cards with a regional theme. She has a particular passion for children’s book illustration and was delighted that the last book she worked on won two awards in 2017; Mummii Family Award for Best Children’s book 2017 and Junior Design Magazine’s Junior Design Award 2017.
When Kathy approached Sarah about the story of Nana Duck she was thrilled to be working with a local author and for the story to be inspired by her surroundings. After being charmed by the people of Stoke-on-Trent and the area inspiring a lot of her own work, this seemed like the perfect project for her. She hopes to do her adopted home justice and bring Kathy’s great story to life with her illustrations.
