I can’t believe that it is almost a month since my last blog post. Time flies. It has been quite a busy month as Nana Duck has been sent to the printers and will be with us soon… I am very excited!
The first proof copy arrived on the 8th September. I was just about able to contain my excitement for the drive over to Stone where I was meeting Sarah. I thought it would be great to share the moment with her as she has worked so hard on the wonderful illustrations.
On the way, I picked up our Nana Duck ceramic hearts from Dimbleby Ceramics (available to buy in our online shop). These were designed by Sarah and were hand-made in Trentham, Stoke-on-Trent. I was really pleased with them and now have one proudly hanging up at home. I’m hoping that people will think that they will make good Christmas presents/stocking fillers/secret Santa gifts.
When we were about to open the package with the proof in it I was so nervous. Although it looked great on the screen, what if I didn’t like it when I saw it?
I needn’t have worried. We both loved it and we were very happy with the print quality. All the wondering about which paper to choose was worth it to get such a good finish. Unfortunately, there were a few small things that needed to be changed so we couldn’t give Mike at Ex Why Zed (our printers) the go-ahead straight away. As I was on holiday the next week this meant that we are now a week behind where we were hoping to be but at least it is only a week.
The second proof was received and we gave Mike the final “yes” on Thursday meaning that 1,000 copies of the book will be winging their way to Nana Duck HQ (otherwise known as our garage) on Wednesday.
Now we just need buyers and suppliers!
